![]() Sadly, the same praise can’t be given to the sidequests, which follow a very small set of formulas: kill a specific boss or retrieve a specific piece of loot, with little real reason given. Is the player’s character truly a savior or just the next victim of the same corruption? The dilemma isn’t quite on the same level as what happened to the Diablo games’ main character, but it’s still good. ![]() The writing is better than many hack & slash games I’ve played – as players progress, they are given journal fragments of a previous explorer who is clearly being driven mad by the Ember and who always thinks that a cure will be found a few floors farther down. It’s not the deepest story in the history of RPGs, but it is clear that the developers put effort into it. As players move down through the floors of that mine, they learn that Ember has a corrupting effect on any who use it, which has already led to the downfall of a number of civilizations. In Torchlight, the player’s character is drawn to a town, also called Torchlight, where a magical ore called Ember is mined. With my biggest complaint eliminated from the equation, how did this port fare? Well, it’s not flawless, but it too is mighty good. So when I heard that it was being released on XBLA, I raised my hand to volunteer for the review so quickly that I hurt my shoulder. In fact, as I said in that review, the only thing I truly disliked in Torchlight on the PC was its delivery service: Steam. Just under a year ago, I reviewed Torchlight on PC, and gave it a mighty respectable score. ![]() Using 1-h + shiled gives you muuuch more survival ability, to stand against tough enemies, but dual-wielding has its advantages (i listed above) comparing to dual-wielding\1h+shield in means of DPS and combat.Déjà vu time. We are talking about dual-wielding(knuckles, pistols) and dual-handed(crossbows, bows, great swords, etc), or dual-wielding vs single-handed? or dual-wielding dual-wielded-intended weapons, or dual-wielding one-handed weapons? You are missing the line. Going 1 hander also lets you use a shield if you're too squishy. Maybe not a problem if you are actively healing or have minions to spread the heat, but some bosses and champions will wreck you if your timing is off either because they have fast attack or a large sweep range. The longer attack speed on 2h will also make you more vulnerable against certain enemies or groups of enemies you can't one shot. The damage bonuses from enchants and sockets don't prefer one over the other, so they will scale better with 1h weapons too because 1h'ers tend to have faster attack speed. Originally posted by Columbo:Since the focus stat is tied in to your mana pool and the execute chance, if you try to get more out of two 1h weapons you are in a better position to use more mana intensive skills or skill rotations too. TL DR: If you plan on putting skill points in skills that require two weapons, then dual-wield. Dual-wielding does NOT give any kind of attack speed boost, and while it gives a damage bonus, it's very small at base 10%. It will be functionally equivalent to using a one-handed weapon with nothing in the off-hand, at the very best. If your class doesn't get any skills that depend on using two weapons, forget about dual-wielding. If the berserker for some reason does not take this skill, a two-hander would deal more damage in almost every case. ![]() With ranks in this skill, the berserker's dual-wield damage will surpass what he could deal with a two-hander. The berserker, for example, gets a skill that both increases his execute chance (the double-strike proc mentioned above) as well as increasing his damage when dual-wielding. That said, classes that are meant to dual-wield get skills that improve their ability to do so. For pure damage, a two-handed weapon is generally better. For two, two-handed weapons deal more damage per hit than one-handed weapons, so more of their damage will get past armour. Well, for one, two-handed weapons have a larger reach than one-handed weapons, so against hordes, they will deal splash damage to more targets.
